BUFFALO, N.Y. - A city police officer was taken to ECMC for multiple injuries after the patrol car she was sitting in was struck by a drunk driver.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. A spokesman for the police department says the officer was assisting a stranded motorist on the 33 at Fillmore Avenue.

The patrol car was struck from behind while the officer was in it.

Police have charged Reginald A. Thompson, 32, of Buffalo with Aggravated DWI and other charges in the incident.

The police officer has been treated and released from Erie County Medical Center.
