Clearwater, FL (Sports Network) - Cole Hamels pitched two innings and gave up
one hit in his first start of 2013, but the Houston Astros came away with an
8-3 victory on Saturday, in the Grapefruit League opener for both squads.
Nate Freiman and Robbie Grossman each drove in two runs, while Marwin Gonzalez
added two hits and an RBI for the Astros, who recorded their first win as an
American League club. Houston had been a member of the National League since
its 1962 inception as the Colt .45's.
Xavier Cedeno picked up the win with a scoreless relief inning for starter
Lucas Harrell.
Chase Utley drove in newly acquired outfielder Ben Revere in the first frame,
and Yuniesky Betancourt came up with an RBI single in the second for the
Phillies, who are trying to regain the NL East crown after yielding it to
Washington last season. Pete Orr added an eighth-inning homer in the loss.
