Port St. Lucie, FL (Sports Network) - Ruben Tejada hit a two-run homer off
Stephen Strasburg in the first inning and the New York Mets took a 5-3 victory
over the Washington Nationals in the first spring training game for both
teams.
Strasburg made his first start of the spring after being shut down late in the
2012 season. He settled down after Tejada's blast and finished allowing three
hits with two runs and a strikeout in two innings.
New York starter Shaun Marcum, who signed as a free agent in the offseason,
was tagged for three runs on four hits, but top pitching prospect Zack Wheeler
followed with two scoreless innings. Jordanny Valdespin and Colin Cowgill each
added an RBI in the victory.
Chris Snyder had a two-run homer for the Nationals and Chris Marrero drove in
the only other run for Washington with an RBI double.
