Tulsa, OK (Sports Network) - The Tulsa Shock named Gary Kloppenburg head
coach on Tuesday.
Kloppenburg served as an assistant for the Indiana Fever since 2008, helping
lead the team to three straight 20-win seasons and two regular season first
place finishes in the Eastern Conference (2009 and 2011). He also helped coach
the Fever to the WNBA Finals in 2009.
"We are extremely excited and looking forward to Gary leading our team on the
court in 2012 and beyond," said Fever owner Bill Cameron. "His experience in
this league along with his reputation and basketball knowledge will translate
to progress on the court in 2012."
Kloppenburg will begin assessing the current roster in preparation for league-
wide free agency, which opens January 15, and the 2012 WNBA Draft.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to come to Tulsa, rolling up my
sleeves and getting to work on building a winning franchise," Kloppenburg
said. "I'll work non-stop with our staff and front office to build a team that
the community can be proud of."
