Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Seattle Storm guard Sue Bird underwent
successful surgery Tuesday morning to repair the labrum in her right hip.
According to a team release, Dr. Marc J. Philippon performed the surgery at
the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. Philippon told the team a full recovery
is expected, and that Bird should be able to play by mid-to-late December.
Bird will stay at the Clinic through the weekend and begin rehabilitation
immediately.
"Everyone within the Storm organization is excited that Sue came through her
surgery successfully," said Brian Agler, Storm head coach. "We knew she had
been fighting the issue for a long time. We are all happy and confident the
surgery is done and behind her."
Bird averaged 14.7 points and 4.9 assists in 34 games during the 2011 season
for the Storm. She also averaged 15.7 points during the Western Conference
semifinals, when Phoenix beat Seattle in three games.
