BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo's Winterfest and Powder Keg Festival are taking the year off.
The announcement was made Tuesday that the event will not be held this year so organizers can prepare for a new and permanent location along the city's waterfront in 2014.
"The committee truly feels that going forward the Buffalo waterfront provides a first-class venue that can produce an event that our city can be proud of and deserves," says Drew Cerza, festival organizer.
By this time next year, canal construction will be completed and available for ice-skating. The First Niagara Center will host indoor family activities as well as entertainment, food and drink. Outdoor winter fun will take place on the green space next to the arena.
Organizers had hoped to make the move to the waterfront this year, but were thrown a curve by the NHL hockey lockout and the uncertainty of the First Niagara Center's availability.
Winter weather enthusiasts can still look forward to celebrating the season at Flurrious!, the Olmsted winter festival set to take place at Delaware Park on January 26th.
Erie County's Winterfest at Chestnut Ridge Park is still on for Sunday, January 27th.
